Natural gas is a fossil fuel, so “clean gas” is an oxymoron. Its extraction creates pollution. Its burning releases carbon dioxide into the air. Carbon dioxide is the greenhouse gas whose excess buildup in the atmosphere is a major cause of global climate change.
It’s better not to use natural gas when there are alternatives, and for most home uses electricity does as well or better. But there was one problem I didn’t know how to solve. Gas is great for stovetop cooking and after having to live with an old electric range that was awful to cook on, I was almost ready to surrender to natural gas as a cooking necessity. Then I tried an electric induction cooktop. An induction cooktop boils water faster and simmers and fries better than natural gas burners. And if your home uses solar energy for its electricity, induction cooking is far better for the environment than cooking with gas. Problem solved.
